It seems to me that the black clergy is walking lock step with Clinton, while his morals are at best questionable. We seem to support him in spite of the evidence.

It is not that black clergy are supporting Clinton in any of his immoral behavior, they understand the validity of being set-up for a fall. In a since, it is not that Clinton represents the African Americans of this country, but White Americans have associated him with African Americans.

As a race we understand what it is like when there are conspiracies against us. No matter how hard you may try to get a job done, when people want to tear you down, they will stop at nothing.

Black clergy are not supporting his lifestyle they are just associating with the descrimination against him.

If we (Black Clergy) do not support his immoral behavior, then we ought to say so. Silence is sometimes seen as consent. I think we are we may lose some so-called help from the federal government. Now that he is sending cruise missles over innocent African countries, where do we stand on him. I say "Impeach him now!"

Yes we as Christians should stand up for what is right. I don't think that the Black Clergy are condoning his immoral acts. But they are dealing with facts. Certainly our President did not just pick up this sort of behavior since the White House experience. He is what he is. He was a womanizer before the election and he is now. If the Lord don't change him he won't be changed.

Those that are throwing stones, live in glass houses. They don't care about his immorality they just don't want him in the White House. If it weren't the Paulas and the Monicas they would find something else.

I beleive Black Clergy says "let the man do his job as president". We need to remember what Paul says, and I will paraphrase. Houses of gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay and stubble, they will all be tried by fire. God has a way of trying by fire and bringing to light what manner of person we are. Let God do the work. In the meantime it is our duty to pray for the President.

The Lord cannot change him unless he wants to be changed. Confession is the first step in that process; admitting his sin, asking for forgiveness and accepting the grace of God. I pray for him constantly. Forgiveness does not mean he can continue in the presidency. When one's behavior disqualifies him/her for a praticular role, that role must be forfieted. The repentant thief was forgiven: "this day you will be with me in paradise", but he was still executed for his crimes. Clinton must reap what he has sown, even after being forgiven. He is no longer qualified to be president. If he were a true Christian, he would resign.

The Lewinsky scandal is long over. President Clinton has acknowledged his immoral behavior. Most importantly, he states that spiritually he sought and received God's forgiveness.

God is the perfect judge and the perfect dispenser of judgment. When David arranged to have Uriah killed, God rebuked and punished David for that sin (II Samuel 12). However, David remained King.

Blacks -- lay and clergy -- support President Clinton because he is concerned about all Americans. Moreover, we pray for the president as our brother in Christ.

It is very interesting that what one sees in Clinton andother see it differently. I believe that Clinton cares only about himself. When David was confronted by the preacher Nathan, he confessed his sin (PSalm 51)and was forgiven. Yes, he remained king but look what happened to the kingdom; he lost the kingdom! Not only the kingdom, but his family fell apart (Absolam, Absolam, my son). If Clinton had repented instead of lying and trying to cover it up, as he continues to do now, he is trying to make people forget about L. and change his legacy. My problem is that we as black folk will stand for and vote for some one that we would not allow alone with our daughter! We have been misled by Clinton and we will be misled by Hilary 90% of all black women support her.

This is an interesting thread. The black clergy in the US is traditionally Democratic by party affiliation so supporting a Democratic President comes as no surprise. Now Clinton's case is intriguing because I'm convinced if he was Republican the discussion [by black clergy] would be calls for his resignation and/or gleefully seeking indictment and impeachment. An overwhelming majority of black Americans, including the clergy, have made a Faustian contract with WJC. In exchange for their undying political loyalty to the Democract machine he can operate with impunity irrepsective of how his actions make a mockery of well-established values in the black community. While eminent scholars like Toni Morrison are comfortable in accepting the Faustian contract [she refers to WJC as the "first black President of the US"] it is peculiar for the black clergy to compromise their values and capitulate to moral debauchery. Blacks were extremely vocal in openly critizing the GOP's "Contract With America" in 1994 as largely immoral. However, this Faustian Contract to Democratic "principles" weakens any degree of moral authority and integrity the black church may have. I for one, don't find the new quid pro quo, ethics in exchange for party loyalty, Biblically supportive in the tradition of the OT prophets like Amos, Zacharia, Nathan, Micah or Samuel.
