Will Leo Boycott Oscars?greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread |
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Will Leonardo DiCaprio go to the Academy Awards ceremony? "Titanic" got 14 Oscar nominations but none of them mentioned DiCaprio. "I really don't know if I'm going to go," DiCaprio told the Daily News while he was in New York this week for the premiere of his new movie, "The Man in the Iron Mask." But the actor's mother seems to think he should stay away. "Why should he go?" Irmalin DiCaprio said. "He wasn't nominated. I don't think he will. He probably won't decide until the last minute."

If Leo doesn't go, it would be extremely poor sportsmanship. For him to say being nominated isn't really that big a deal, and then not show up because of it, is nothing more than pouting. The mature thing to do is to go and be supportive of his follow castmates. After all, Oscar or not, he was a big part of what makes that movie as big as it is. After reading and seeing some interviews he's done since the making of that movie, I believe he ought to be real careful. If he shuns the Academy Awards just because he wasn't nominated, he will seemingly start becoming the very ego-maniac driven movie-star that cares more about what people think as opposed to the actual work he claims to care more about. Who knows? Maybe none of this is going through his mind at all. But if it is, he needs to grow up.

I think if he shuns the academy this year then that will show he really doesn't care if he got nominated or not. I can see the point that if you weren't nominated why go? You'd have to get dressed up for a whole evening, talk to tons of people you might not want to see and why? Just because??? I think that we shouldn't care if he doesn't go. It's his life, let him sit at home and watch them on t.v. like the rest of us if he wants to. After all it is a free country. my $0.02

Oh yeah, I forgot, it's all about him, isn't it?

Boycott for all reasons that he can see patriotic. Our French ancestry is and should be embarrassing to us unless we make it known that we are not all opportunistic. Some French people are actually realistic.

Who cares about this dude or the academy? Look around you at the real life issues that need your energies!! Just get real about what is really important.
