Has anyone seen both the movie and the musical? What did you think? Which did you like better? Do you have any comments on the musical itself (like, where did that stoker [Brian D'Arcy James] get that voice?) This is the only page where i can get feedback, so GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS! (please?)

I have not seen the broadway musical. I did, however, speak with a lady who has seen both the movie and the musical. She thought the musical was better, but the movie was more emotional.

The musical soundtrack is very good. It appears as if most of the dialogue is sung (i.e., "The Phantom of the Opera"). In one song, Kate, a Third Class passenger, is observing First Class passengers boarding the ship and sings about who they are and their backgrounds. It is very much like when Rose is describes some of the First Class passengers to Jack.

The musical will close March 28, 1999 and will have played 804 performances at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater where it opened April 23, 1997.

I've seen the movie "Titanic" 19 times and "Titanic: The Musical" twice on Broadway. For me, watching the movie is far more emotional, but watching the stage production was fascinating. It kept me watching...watching...trying to take it all in, which is probably why I didn't cry. In fact, the first time I saw the Musical, I walked away a bit disapppointed because it didn't affect me like the movie. And I didn't find anything notable about the music. But I still went out and bought the cast recording CD, listened to it quite a few times, and read the lyrics. Now the music gets me teary-eyed, thinking about the hopes that these people had and the great losses and unrealized dreams of so many!!! And I did go back to see the show on Broadway a 2nd time and really enjoyed it.

I especially love Brian D'Arcy James playing Barrett the stoker. He's got a great voice!!! I read an interview with him in which he noted that acting is in the family....in fact, he is named after his uncle Brian Kelly, who played the dad on the TV series Flipper. I think listening to the cast recording you can really appreciate the whole stage production that much more!!!

Although the show is closing on Broadway later this month, it has already begun its national tour. It was in Los Angeles in January. It's in Denver this month. I've heard that it will play in Chicago and Boston and Seattle. And it's slated for Detroit in September, so I'm planning to go to see it there.
