I met Floyd, then known to me as Rich, on cold night Winter 1990 when he came by to pick some some folks to go to a Feelies show at the now-defunct Orchestra Pit in downtown Winston-Salem. He was in his second year at Wake, I in my first. He came in to the room, where he was well-known by the others who were his classmates. He said hello to me and immediately shoved a tape recorder in my face to say hello to someone living in Korea (he was sending an audio letter). We all hung out, partied, and then six of us piled into Rich's ancient two-door Toyota Celica. When we came to our first stop light, he announced, "I think I'll have a beer." He then reached over, banged open the car's glove-box, and pulled out the glove box's only item, a warm Bush beer. I thought that was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen, and we've been friends ever since. The following year I went to my first Mini-Commune. In 1993 I went to the 4th of July Summer Soltesz. The rest I guess is histoy.
